Just Sitting Around Waiting To Be Played!

My oldest son showed interest in learning how to play a keyboard a couple of years ago. He mentioned it to me and my husband and my mother-in-law! He was all geared up about learning how to play. So my mother-in-law decided to buy him and my other son keyboards. The younger one got a mini keyboard while the older one got a 76 key keyboard. They were all happy and excited and played it every day until the new wore out. And now they hardly touch it. It is just sitting around in their bedroom waiting to be played! It is just ashamed to just let it sit in the corner when it is a perfectly good keyboard! Maybe my youngest daughter would be interested in playing it when she gets a little older! Hopefully!

The Perfect Pan De Sal Taste For Me!

I am so glad to be back posting another entry on this blog! It has been a while since the last time I posted on here, that's for sure! I have been very busy lately, I just didn't have the urge to post anything at all until tonight. I will be talking about this Filipino bread that we call in the Philippines, Pan de Sal! This bread is one of the most popular bread we have there. It is usually eaten in the morning for breakfast as a substitute if you don't feel like eating rice, and I tell you, it is best eaten with coffee! It is also eaten in the afternoon as a snack, and of course, it is always well paired with coffee!

Anyway, I've made this bread like three times already but I wasn't satisfied with how it tasted, it is just not the same taste as what I remembered it in the Philippines! Well, until a few days ago when I made it for the fourth time! This time the bread tasted perfect and the fluffiness and the texture were just right! I am so thrilled that I finally got it right at last and I will be able to enjoy this bread whenever I want it! I am also taking orders for it and other Filipino bread, so if my friends who are missing Filipino bread will be able to satisfy their cravings, well that is if, they like the taste of what I made. Everybody has different taste, so I don't really expect everyone to like what I'm selling, and if they don't, they don't have to order again, right?!😉😉

His Very First Guitar!

I have mentioned in the previous post that my husband is into playing electric guitar. He used to be in a band when he was a lot younger. His very first guitar is the ibanez roadstar ii! He still has it in the house together with other two electric guitars, one used to be his oldest daughter's but she wasn't interested in it anymore, so he kept it and the other one is what he built from a kit! He still plays with all of them at least once a week! He said it really brings back memories when he used to play in the band!

Taking Orders For Filipino Snacks/Foods

The picture above was my first major orders that were made by my friends to me last week! I decided over a week ago that I am going to start taking orders making Filipino snacks/foods. A lot of my friends have urged and encouraged me to take orders but I was too timid to do it for fear that they won't like the taste!

This one friend that made an order of Siopao from me told me that she really loved it that I should really start taking orders. With her encouragement and the need to earn extra money, I decided to do it. I never thought that it would be a hit! So above was my first major orders, this was just half of it! And I have more orders to fill in the next couple of weeks! It is a lot of work, I am not going to lie but I am just so glad and thankful for all the encouragements or I wouldn't have been braved enough to do it. Now I have another way of earning extra income for the family!

A Little Harvest From Our Little Garden This Year!

This year, we weren't able to have a big garden like we planned to do, it just didn't happen due to the fact that I got so busy taking care of my now 4 months old baby girl and the husband could hardly get a break from getting sick. By the time we realized that we didn't plant many vegetables this year, it was a bit too late to do it! Summer is now almost over and the Fall season will be here before we know it!

Anyhow, in spite of our hectic schedule, my husband was able to set up his hydroponics and we were able to plant a few vegetables consists of Roma and Brandywine tomatoes, green bell pepper and eggplants. I also have some Yardlong beans and some other Filipino veggies planted in the yard. So I am very much happy that we at least have some veggies planted and we are able to enjoy the freshly harvested vegetables even if it's just a little. Next year for sure, we will have a big garden!

 photo 2af92a08-0016-466e-bf66-e4825a102d8b_zpsb8ejkucr.jpg
I love that I can just pick fresh flowers whenever I want to from my garden! These beautiful bouquet of Gladiolas pictured above came freshly picked from my garden. Aren't they beautiful?

The picture doesn't do it justice! In person, the colors are so vibrant! I am so glad that in spite of not taking care of them this year, they are still thriving! I just do not have that much time to dedicate to my plants outside with a new baby to take care of!

Heart-Shaped Father's Day Leche Flan

I made this heart-shaped leche flan for my husband on Father's day! Leche Flan is basically an egg custard made with simple ingredients, the main ingredients are egg yolks and condensed milk. There are so many recipes online but this particular recipe is my favorite which I am going to list below..

Leche Flan Recipe

10 egg yolks
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup evaporated milk
A drop or 2 of vanilla extract
1 cup of brown or white sugar

If you are using multiple molds, split sugar equally and put in the individual molds and heat on the stove until sugar melts and caramelized. Set aside and in a separate bowl, mixed remaining ingredients until smooth. Pour in the mold with caramelized sugar, cover with aluminum foil and put in the steamer for 30 to 35 minutes. Flan is done when toothpick inserted comes out clean!

Light Airy Poncho

I've been crocheting a lot of stuff for my baby girl, the boys and other people. I have not made anything for myself until the other day, I decided to make this very cute light airy poncho that I found the pattern for free online! I usually watch videos on Youtube when I decide to crochet something, but the poncho tutorials that are on there I didn't like the style. So, I decided to look for a free pattern and instruction online and found this style to be very cute and voila! I made it for myself!

The colors weren't planned! I originally want it to be just the Royal blue color but I ran out and I didn't want to wait to finish it until I can buy another skein of yarn. So I decided to use the Turquoise blue that I already have. I really think it's much cuter being a two-toned color rather than just a solid Royal blue! ;)

Sauteed Water Spinach and Mung Bean Soup

I fixed these sauteed water spinach and mung bean soup the other night, paired with white rice of course. I feel lucky that my family loves to eat Filipino dishes with me, except for my husband who doesn't like dried fish like most Americans who are married to Pinays, but everything else he'll eat! I've adapted to American foods pretty well, but I do still crave for my native food, although I don't fix them often. I am glad that I do not have to have rice in every meal like we do in the Philippines, so I would say that I've adjusted pretty well. I've known some Filipinos that had been here for over 20 years and they still have to have rice with every meal! So I am proud of myself that I don't crave for rice all the time! ;)

Newest Member Of Our Family

I know it's been over a month since I lasted posted an entry on here. Well, it's been very busy the past few weeks for us in a very good way. Our family just got bigger, meet the newest member of our family, Angela Danielle! She was born April 9 at 35 weeks and one day. So she's about 5 weeks early from her due date. She weighed 5 lbs and 11 oz and about 18 and 3/4 inches long! Although she was a bit early, she was fully developed which I thank GOD! So she didn't have to stay in NICU. My whole delivery was perfect, I wouldn't want it any other way and we got to see and spend time with her early!

Everybody couldn't get enough of her, especially the 4-year old brother. He has been very excited to see her little sister and asked me every day when I will go to the hospital so he could see his sister. Finally, they've met and he couldn't get enough of her. We have to keep an eye on him because he'd already attempted to pick her up a few times! But anyway, I'm so glad that the two older brothers are so fond of their little sister! It is just priceless to see how much they adore her! I love my children so much and I thank GOD every opportunity I get for giving me these precious gifts!!!

Our Easter Sunday Celebration

The pictures above were taken during Easter Sunday after the Easter mass. We haven't been to church for over a month due to being sick of some kind of respiratory infection. As you can see, my husband is not in the picture, it's because, he still sick and still suffering from the said illness!

Anyway, I was so glad that my boys and I were able to go to church that day. That's how we celebrated our Easter, then came home and the boys were surprised by the Easter baskets that Easter Bunny left for them on the porch at the front door!

Too bad, our church did not host an egg hunting this year, but the boys were satisfied with their baskets. Later, my mother-in-law came over for dinner and fixed some ham and sweet potato balls for our Easter dinner! So overall, our Easter celebration was awesome!

Do It Yourself Home Project!

It's the time of the year again to tackle the unfinished home project now that Spring is here! We have so many things that need to be done before the baby comes on May. So many broken things that need to be fixed! Since we are low on the budget, my husband and I are gonna have to do it ourselves!

Good thing there are tutorials on the internet that we can watch or follow if it's something that we've never tackled before. There are so many articles online that you read that might be able to help with a do-it-yourself home project just like how you can learn more about heavy duty slides if you don't know anything about it! Hopefully we'll be able to finish all of these projects before I give birth!

First Sign Of Spring

It is not officially Spring yet but you can definitely tell that it is here! The first sign that I can see around our yard are my Hyacinths blooming! I just love it when my spring bulbs start sprouting and blooming! My Tulips are also sprouting and I cannot wait for them to bloom!

Promise Ring: A Beautiful Mother's Day Gift

There is nothing more beautiful than receiving a heartfelt gift from your loved ones, especially from your kids! I always love it when my kids make me something whether there is a special occasion or not! The thought of them thinking of you and putting a lot of effort on it makes it even more special!

Speaking of special, Mother's Day is less than 2 months away and will be here before we know it! I always wish my own mother is not 10, 000 miles away so we can celebrate the special day together and give her something extra special like a promise ring for her!

The last time I celebrated Mother's Day with her was before I came here in the US almost 11 years ago! I really miss her so much and I know one day, if GOD permits, we will be able to celebrate special occasions together again! But for the time being, a simple phone call and personal greetings on the phone that day will be good enough!

Mamon Or Filipino Sponge Cake!

This morning I decided to make this Filipino Sponge cake or what we call in the Philippines Mamon! This is my first time baking this dessert and it has been a long time since I tasted this, probably the last time was way before I came here in the US almost 11 years ago! I honestly do not remember what they're supposed to taste like! I posted a picture on Facebook and said that I do not remember the taste, and one of my friends commented that, it's supposed to be spongy to the touch and sweet to the taste. So I guess I made it right, thanks to the recipe from panlasangpinoy.com

If you want to try this out, I posted the recipe below from panlasangpinoy.com or you can click the link above to go to the site to watch the video! I tell you, it is very easy to make and it tastes really good! I did add a little more sugar than what the recipe calls for, because I wanted it a little sweeter! And also, if you don't have a cake flour like I did, you can actually make your own cake flour by substituting all-purpose flour and cornstarch. Just put 2 tablespoons of cornstarch at the bottom of your 1-cup measuring cup and fill the rest with all-purpose flour and then mix well!

Mamon Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cream tartar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 6 eggs, yolk separated from white

Cooking Procedure

  1. Combine cake flour and baking powder then mix well. Set aside.
  2. Combine egg whites and cream of tartar then beat until the mixture becomes somewhat fluffy.
  3. Gradually add sugar then continue beating until the texture becomes fluffier. Use high speed for this process; this should take around 4 to 8 minutes.
  4. Add lemon juice and egg yolks then mix again.
  5. Put-in vegetable oil then mix for a few seconds then gradually add cake flour-baking powder mixture. Continue mixing until the texture becomes smooth.
  6. Heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  7. Grease the molds using cooking spray then scoop some of the mixture into the mold. Continue doing this process until all the mixture is used-up.
  8. Bake for 13 to 16 minutes or until it passes the toothpick test.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool.
  10. Serve. Share and enjoy!
Number of servings (yield): 4

Looking For An Affordable Guitar

My youngest son is really showing interest in playing guitar. Whenever his daddy plays his electric guitar, he runs to his bedroom to get his toy guitar and starts playing with him. His toy guitar doesn't even have strings, but he is still strumming it because he sees his daddy doing it! I thought it was so funny!

So my husband and I were thinking of looking for an affordable guitar at the guitar center, it doesn't have to be fancy since he's only 4 years old, an acoustic will work or even a ukelele! Just something for him to have to jam with his daddy and will also encourage him to continue playing!

Crocheting Is Fun!

So about a month ago, I started learning how to crochet just to try out with the urge of my husband! I didn't realize that I would love to crochet so much that I am doing it almost every day and making new things right after another! I would have never thought that I would be so interested in crocheting if I wasn't doing it! It is indeed very time consuming and also takes a lot of patience, but I like it because, it is occupying my mind and it's productive instead of just sitting in front of the computer with no result to see at the end of the day!

Anyhow, pictures below are what I have completed so far. They're mostly for my baby girl who will be here this coming May! She's the one who inspired me to take up crocheting so I can make some cute headbands, hats, and other things for her! I am so excited to see her, I tell you, I cannot hardly wait! Anyway, I also made some Minecraft inspired toboggan for my boys and they both loved it!

No Filipino Tradition For This New Year!

This year's New Year I skipped the Filipino Tradition that I normally do every year for the past 5 years! I just didn't feel like it and we didn't really have enough money to buy all the stuff to do it. In the Filipino tradition for the New Year, we collect 13 kinds of round fruits, prepare some kind of noodle dish for long life and some other things! The only thing that I did fix is what we call in the Philippines "Budbud" that's made out of sticky or glutinous rice. I actually didn't fix for the New Year, I just fixed it because I was craving for it!

And of course, just as I got the taste perfected according to my liking, while steaming it, the banana leaves that were wrapping the sticky rice, some fell apart, broke open and a lot of my sticky rice got wasted! Good thing not all of them that broke open fell in the water, I managed to save some! But, next time I'm doing this, I will make sure that I will wrap it double to avoid accidents like this from happening again!

Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful and prosperous NEW YEAR!!!!
