Filipino Style Friend Pork

Wow it has been a long time since I've joined FTF! My schedule has been so messed up since my oldest son joined baseball. Between practice and taking care of the house and kids, my hands are tied pretty tight!

Anyway, I am so glad that I am able to join this week's FTF! For this week's entry, I am posting this Filipino style fried pork that I fixed about 2 weeks ago! It was so dang good! I can still taste the crispy skin and the juicy fats! Thinking about it is making my mouth watery right now! I haven't had any Filipino meals for about a week since I am on a diet with my husband and mother-in-law! But after I get off this diet, rest assured that I will be making this friend pork again!

Easy Minecraft Birthday Theme

My oldest son just turned 8 years old two days ago. Although we didn't have big plans for his birthday, I did decorate the house a little with balloons and some paper steamers. Since he's big on Minecraft right now, I picked out green and black colors so it would be a minecraft color theme. That little gesture on my part, really made my son so happy on his birthday. I love that he is so appreciative on every little things that I do for him!

Anyway, so his request on his birthday is to go to Chuck E Cheese to play. We went and stayed for a couple of hours and came home so he can blow and eat his cake and ice cream and open his presents. Another surprise that I had for him was minecraft cake. He was really thrilled to see it and couldn't wait to play with the minecraft mini action figures that I had put on the cake..

Below are some of the stuff that I personally made on his birthday, except for the cake of course. I ordered it at the grocery store with just green and black icing to match with the minecraft color theme and put the mini action figures that I had bought at Walmart when we got home...
DIY Creeper Balloon...very easy to make!

Minecraft themed cake!

Things like nuts, granola bars, or dried fruit can be easy to pull out and eat on the lift back up the mountain. They are also full of good energy to help give you more time on the slopes.

There are companies like that provides the ability to place Bluetooth-type transmitters into your skiing helmet. This allows you to listen to music or even answer your phone while skiing down the mountain. You won’t have to worry about any missed calls while you are out of the office. You will truly be set for a great day on the mountain.

Cute Holder/Organizer Made Out Of Frozen Juice Container

It's been a while since I did some crafting. But a week ago, I woke up that morning feeling crafty, so I made something out of a frozen juice container that I have been saving for a while. I am always hesitant to throw away plastic containers for I can always find something to make something out of them.

Anyway, below was my latest creation! I thought this is just so cute! I used two different duct tapes, floral and animal prints and a few embellishments. It was very easy to make! By looking at picture below, you will get the idea of how I did it. No need for instructions! I used Elmer's glue to stick the XOXO ribbon around it and that's it!

Blogging As A Sideline Job

I have been blogging since 2010. I have never heard of it before until I came across this blog that I really enjoyed reading. I thought it was cool being able to express your own opinion about things. At first, I didn't know that you can make money from it. When I found that out, I got more interested and decided to make one. I found out that it wasn't that easy to make money from it. A lot of work involved but I managed to get my blog established to where I can make some money out of it, not a whole lot but it's better than none! Later on, I made 3 more blogs and so blogging has been my sideline job for over 3 years as I am staying home taking care of my family!

Anyway, I guess a lot of people have heard about making money from blogging so as of February of 2011, over 156 million blogs were in existence on the internet as shown in the infographic below! WOW that's a lot! Just imagine visiting every one of those blogs! It will probably take years and years to visit all of it! LOL!

Funny Valentines Day Card

I know that Valentines day was 3 days ago but I just want to share this funny Valentines Day card that I bought for my mother-in-law. When I saw it at the store, I knew I had to buy it for her. I thought it suits her situation whenever she comes over to eat dinner with us! Most of the time it is such a chaos in the house because of the 2 kids who most of the time makes so much noise and plays very roughly with each other! It is enough to drive anybody insane! So she would indeed feel like she walked into the wrong home if everybody was quiet and well-behaved! LOL!

Subaru Impreza Car Parts: Replacing The Brake Pads

Replacing the brake pads on the Subaru Impreza is fairly straightforward and shouldn’t take too much time or energy. Make sure that you have the best quality brake pads from a place that sellsSubaru Impreza car parts, and ensure that they are the right type of pads for your vehicle before you begin the procedure.

Replacing the Front Brake Pads on a Subaru Impreza

In order to do this job correctly, you are going to need a few tools: a c-clamp for compressing the piston in the caliper, a wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the wheels, a car jack and jack stand to raise and hold the car in place, and a socket or wrench to remove one of the caliper bolts.
The first thing to do is to loosen the lug nuts on the wheel you are working on. Use the wrench to loosen them up and then jack the car up and slip the stand under it to secure it into place and prevent it from accidentally falling. Remove the lug nuts by hand, and then slip the wheel off to reveal the brake pads and rotor.
Before you remove the old brake pads, inspect the rotor for any damage or uneven wear. If you replace the pads soon enough you shouldn’t see any grooves cut into the rotor from worn-down pads. If the rotor is bad, you will need to replace it as well.
Assuming the rotor is fine, the next job is to lift away the caliper so that you can access the pads beneath. This is done by removing the lower bolt that holds the caliper in place. The upper bolt could be removed, but it is easier to remove the lower one and pivot the caliper around the upper one; this will remove the chance of putting stress on the brake line. Once the lower bolt is out, rotate the caliper upward around the upper bolt so that the pads are exposed.
Now that the pads are exposed, it is fairly simple to remove them and secure the new pads in their place.
Before you rotate the caliper down, you will need to squeeze closed the piston inside it, driving the brake fluid back into the system; this is because the new pads are thicker than the old pads and when you rotate the caliper back down, the piston inside will obstruct the movement. The good news is that since the system remains closed, you will not have to do any priming to remove air, and a few pumps of the brake pedal will have everything back to normal once the job is complete.
Use a C-clamp to squeeze the piston fully open to that it sinks back into the caliper before rotating the caliper down and replacing the bolt. After that, affix the tire and you are good to go.
Remember: using good quality Subaru Impreza car parts will prolong the life of your vehicle and help keep you and your passengers safe on the roads.

V-Day Is Soon To Be Here!

Valentines day is just around the corner, do you have special plans for this coming HE♥'RTs day? As for me and my family, nothing really. To us it is just another ordinary day. My husband and I do give each other V-day cards and that's pretty much it.

Anyway, my son's class already sent a notice and list that they will be having a V-day snack in their class and exchange cards on that day. They are asking for volunteers to bring in the snacks. The past two years, I always buy the Valentine's card to give to his classmates and teachers but this time I want to make something special. I decided to make a treat bags for the kids this year. I haven't done it yet but I already have the idea of how to put it together. I just need to buy the candies and make the bags. I still have until next week to do it...

What Is Better For Your Landscaping Project, Crushed or Pea Gravel?

When it comes to landscaping, people tend to picture flowers, shrubbery, trees, groomed lawns, and other foliage. But another important aspect of proper landscaping is the hardscaping, which can involve paths, mulch, and drainage. You can use a variety of materials for your hardscaping, from concrete and asphalt to gravel and sand. Gravel itself comes in a variety of choices. Two popular choices you can find from a supplier such as All Valley Sand and Gravel are crushed gravel and pea gravel.

Crushed Gravel

Crushed gravel can also be referred to as crushed rock, as it is primarily literally composed of crushed pieces of stone. In some cases, crushed concrete pieces may also be mixed in. While crushed gravel pieces tend to be about half an inch to an inch in diameter, granular, sand-like pieces tend to be present as well, which helps add to the stability of crushed gravel. Even without the sand-like pieces, crushed gravel has excellent ability to compact due to its tendency to have irregular, sharp edges. As the edges fit together, the compact gravel can be used for creating a hard base for a number of purposes, such as for fence posts or other structures. More popularly, however, it is used to create a surface for a driveway, walkway, or patio. Although the gravel is great for compacting, crushed gravel also allows for adequate drainage, and is relatively low maintenance.
Pea Gravel

Although it is also composed of stone, pea gravel differs from crushed gravel in several ways. Instead of being composed of irregular, sharp stone pieces, pea gravel contains smaller, rounded stones. The stones are smooth in feel, which can be gentler on bare feet if used in walkways or patios. It also tends to have a more aesthetically pleasing look, coming in a variety of colors such as light blues, whites, tans, and even reds. Due to the smoothness of the stones, they do not compact as well as crushed gravel, and will require edging to prevent them from scattering. Like crushed gravel, pea gravel allows for adequate drainage and is relatively low maintenance. A company such as All Valley Sand and Gravel thatspecializes in gravels and other filler materials can assist you in deciding which gravel would be best for your landscaping project.

100th Day Of School Family Project

Last week my son brought this paper from their class about this family project that we will be doing for their 100th day of school. The idea is for the students to find an object and use 100 of it to make some kind of creation. So I decided to use a popsicle/craft sticks to make a cute basket. I've made it before so that was easy for me and my son to work on it. All we needed were the popsicle sticks and glue. I got lucky that I still had popsicle sticks leftover from the last time I made some which was over 5 years ago!

Anyhow, my son and I made the basket yesterday and seemed like he enjoyed making it. This is what the basket looks like below but it is not the actual one that we made yesterday. The one in the pictures below I only assembled to make sure that the 100 mini-sticks will be enough to make one, so I didn't glue it..

Anyway, the idea of this basket is NOT MINE! I found the picture online over 5 years ago, I think on Ebay if I am not mistaken. I just looked at the picture and figured out myself on how to make it. It was kind of hard at first but then it gets easy once you get the hang of it. You can also use regular size popsicle sticks which you can buy both the mini and regular sizes at Walmart at the craft section. I made the regular size before and I still have it using it to hold my shells that I brought from the Philippines. You can use this basket to hold just about anything, as long as it will fit in it and light enough not to break it! Next time, I will post the step by step on how to make this adorable basket!

More Bitter Cold Temperatures Coming Our Way!

We've experienced so much bitter cold temperatures here in our area. It just snowed a couple of days ago, some have melted, some have remained and now I am hearing for more snow days heading our way! I don't know about you all but I am fed up with all these snow. Spring time is still about 3 months away and I do not know what more to expect in this bitter cold days.

All the schools here in our county are closed all week even when there is no snow. It is because it has been dangerously cold outside. I can understand why school administrators don't want to take the risk of kids being harmed!  A week ago, there was a father and a son who died from a wreck they endured from slippery road. It is truly a disgrace! May they rest in peace and my prayers go out to their family!

Anyway, I really hope that the ones that are coming would be the last the ones. We couldn't even keep our house warm because it gets to a single digit temperature outside. Our electric bill already gone up to $50 more this month. This year's winter is one of the worst winters I've experienced in my almost 9 years of living here. And I can see that every year the weather is getting weirder and weirder!

I Made A Lot Of People On Facebook Drool!

I made this "Humba" or Pork Braised in vinegar, soy sauce and brown sugar yesterday! I uploaded it on facebook afterwards and made a lot of people drool on there. It's not because they don't know how to cook this dish but it's because of the meat that I used to cook it. You see, it is very seldom that you find pork with skin and fat still attached because a lot of Americans do not eat it!

We (Filipinos) are used to eating this kind of meat back home, so everybody gets excited if they find this rare meat! I actually used Hog Jowls to cook this dish. Hog Jowls is a season pork meat usually use to cook in greens or beans to season it. It's not available all the time but only probably once a year during New Year time! I've been wanting to try cooking "Humba" using Hog Jowls and yesterday I finally did it. It's not bad actually, the meat is already seasoned and I think it is smoked too if I'm not mistaken!

Anyway, a couple of my friends on Facebook asking where did I get the meat, I haven't replied to them yet. I am sure they'll be surprised if I tell them that it is just a seasoning meat! It is very cheap too, so it really worked well to my advantage! Next time I'm going to the grocery store, I'll be buying a lot of it to have in stock for they won't be available for long. And I also want to try making soup out of it!

My Perfect Biko!

One of the Filipino foods that I fixed for the New Year is this dessert that we call in the Philippines "Biko". It is made out of sticky or glutinous rice mixed with caramelized coconut milk and brown sugar with a little hint of salt! I don't know how many times I've made this before but I only got it perfected the other day, well according to my liking that is!

I got the recipe from which is the best recipe that I have tried. I made a few adjustments and it came out perfect finally! What I learned from this is, you have to have patience if you want it to come out decent! Because before, I always rush the coconut milk and brown sugar mixture. You have to have plenty of time to do it too because it takes a while to thicken the said mixture! And when you cook your sweet rice or what we call "pilit", make sure you add less water to avoid overcooking it. So next time you want to make this, do it slowly, be patient and rest assured it will come out the way it supposed to be!  ;)
