Dentist Tips on Stopping Cavities from Forming Further

It’s always horrifying when you detect a cavity in your teeth. You can usually tell when you experience pain or tingling when you eat sweets or hot or cold foods. You may also notice a cavity when you spot small holes or see discoloration on a tooth. Bad breath is commonly linked with cavities as well because of the odor that comes with tooth decay. Usually a trip to the general dentist in Delray Beach may be inevitable in these cases. However, there are a few things you can do to prevent the cavity from increasing and developing further.

What to Eat

It’s commonly known that consuming too many sugary foods can lead to tooth decay and cavities. Hard candies that stick to your teeth are especially deadly. When you do eat sugar-filled treats, be sure to brush and floss shortly after. If you love chewing on gum, purchase a brand that contains xylitol, a sugar alternative. These gums are actually good for preventing tooth decay and fixing cavities, so don’t hesitate to chew on these. Green tea, taken in a glass daily, can be beneficial to your teeth. This type of tea contains high levels of fluorine and prevents and treats tooth cavities by reducing bacteria in the mouth and plaque accumulation, which are responsible for gum disease and cavities. You can even use green tea as a mouthwash. Another tip is to chew on licorice root. This herb is surprisingly tasty and blocks the growth of bacteria linked to cavity formations. Last, be sure to eat unsweetened yogurt. Eating calcium-rich treats every day will strengthen your teeth and eliminate germs, bacteria, and yeast that lead to cavities.

How to Care for Your Teeth

If you properly care for your teeth, you may prevent cavities from spreading. If your cavity is in the early stages, you can even reverse the process. Remember to brush and floss following every meal and during the morning and nighttime, before bed. Use fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride is a useful ingredient because it keeps the teeth safe from decay. Apply mouthwash twice a day for best results. If a cavity is still present, be sure to visit your general dentist in Delray Beach.
