Steve Carell

Guest post of the week by Robby Sykes

Steve Carell isn't the funniest actor around. In fact, I think being around him in person would be rather awkward. He'd probably tell a bunch of lame jokes in an attempt to live up to being a comedian and awkward silence would ensue. But those awkward moments, while horrible to actually live out, are funny when viewed from a third person perspective. The way he can produce these awkward producing moments with such regularity is part of what has made him so successful.
That's probably why he was perfect in The 40 Year Old Virgin. The way he acted out the role, it was entirely believable that this man was a virgin at age 40. After seeing the movie, I decided to check out his television show, The Office, via satellite TV from TVbyDirect.com. It did not disappoint. Playing Michael Scott, the branch manager, Carell produced awkward moment after awkward moment as a man desperate for both friendship and love. There were times when it was admittedly hard to watch, but if you stuck with it, you always got either a heartfelt or laugh out loud moment. I'm afraid to see what the show will become when Carell leaves. While I have yet to catch any of his movies since Evan Almighty bombed, I am looking forward to when movies like Dinner for Schmucks, Despicable Me and Date Night begin airing on television.
